Archive
Archiving is the default removal mechanism for documents, fragments, comments, tasks, xrefs, memberships and groups.
We use the icon in the user interface for actions that archive objects.
Background
Read archive and delete for some background information about these features.
Archive folder
The archive folder is a default folder in every group and is created by the system when the group is created. That folder is the equivalent of the recycle bin or trash available in most file systems, except that PageSeeder doesn’t provide a way to clear it.
Automatically created subfolders
When folders or documents are archived, PageSeeder automatically creates subfolders in the archive folder, for the current year and month.
When unarchiving folders or documents, these automatically created subfolders cannot be unarchived as their “location is unknown”.
Archived documents
When you archive a document, PageSeeder moves it to the archive folder, then into automatically created subfolders for the current year and month.
Archived xrefs
When you remove an xref, it is still available:
- When viewing the fragment history panel or document history panel, or
- When viewing a previous version in which it existed, either in the document version panel or the compare documents panel.
- When viewing a document, in the document references panel, under the Incoming tab.
When you archive a document, the outgoing xrefs are removed by default and appear as unresolved, but they can usually be recreated automatically when unarchiving the document. However, incoming xrefs to the archived document are not removed. They must be removed manually and there is an option on the archive to run a references validation to find these.
In the document references panel, the xref looks like this:
Archived groups and projects
When you archive a group or project, it is moved to the archive project, eg /archive/dev/ps
, so that it can be recovered at another stage.
Archived memberships
When a member is removed from a group, their details are still retained and can be viewed on the manage members page by selecting Display former members.
Archived comments
Archived comments, tasks and discussions can be recovered from the discussions page or document discussions panel by selecting the Show archived comments, tasks and discussions option on the preferences page. Users with the role of manager, or contributors who are the comment author, can then click next to the comment to unarchive.
Archived edits
When you remove a fragment, it is marked as archived but is still available as an edit in the document history panel.
