How to add a region to a PDF or an image

Key point: Select a specific area in an image or PDF document to add a URL, xref or comment.

Prerequisites

You must have a role of contributor or higher.

Links and xrefs on regions cannot be edited, only archived.

To add a region when viewing an image or PDF document:

Add a region containing a link to a URL

  1. Click the icon in the document toolbar.
  2. Click and hold your mouse on the position in the image or PDF where you want to start your region then drag to the needed size.
    1. Release the mouse and the link dialog displays.
  3.   Enter a URL or start typing to search existing URLs. 
    1. Click the icon to the right of the field if you want to edit your URL.
  4. Press Enter or click a URL from the existing list to select it. The URL and associated metadata displays.
    1. You can click the URL to go to the page.
  5. You can edit the Text field –this text displays as the link title in the document.
  6. Click a label to add it to the link. If no existing labels, click the icon to add a custom label to the link – type a name for the label.
  7. Click Save – clicking Save automatically saves the link to the URL and also saves the URL and it’s associated metadata in a PageSeeder document.
  8. You can now hold the cursor over the region and see the URL title.

Add a region containing an xref

  1. Click the  icon in the document toolbar.
  2. Click and hold your mouse on the position in the image or PDF where you want to start your region then drag to the needed size.
    1. Release the mouse and the xref dialog displays.
  3. Follow steps 2 onwards in how to create an xref in a document.
  4. You can now hold the cursor over the region and see the link title.

Add a region with a comment

  1. Click the  icon in the document toolbar.
  2. Click and hold your mouse on the position in the image or PDF where you want to start your region then drag to the needed size.
    1. Release the mouse and the comment dialog displays.
  3. Follow steps 3 onwards in how to post a comment on a document.
  4. You can now hold the cursor over the region and see the comment title.

When a comment has been created, a red icon displays to the top right of the PDF page. 

If the comment has been made into a task, a task icon displays to the top right of the page.

Archive a region

  1. Click the icon to the right of any region with a link, xref or comment.

When archiving a region with a link to a URL, only the region and link to the URL is archived. If a URL document was automatically created when the link was created, that URL document is NOT archived.
