Concurrent editing

Key point: Real-time display of details when another user is editing the same document.

This feature makes it easier to avoid edit collisions and to work with other people on the same documents.

When you’re editing a document and another user edits that document, at the left of the fragments they are editing, you see a red bar and also a flashing ellipsis. When they pause editing, a draft of their edit is auto-saved—you then see a red icon to the left of the fragment. Holding the cursor over the icon reveals the author and the date and time the draft was created.

At the same time, they see a red bar and icon to the left of fragments you have edited and have a draft on. A blue bar and the icon is briefly seen to the left of any fragments either user is actively editing again—when user pauses and a subsequent draft is saved, they see the red bar and icon again.

When you save your edits, the other user sees a red icon to the left of any fragments you have saved but they still have a draft on. If they have drafts on fragments that you haven’t edited, they see a grey draft icon—for them to make further edits on those fragments, they need to go to their My Drafts page.

The current content of the fragment is the last saved content, not the content of the users’ draft as they haven’t saved that content yet.
