How to create metadata properties for placeholders

Key point: Create metadata properties that can be used to supply values that can be used for placeholders.

Prerequisites

You must have a role of contributor or higher and be viewing a document.

1 Select correct tab

  1. Click the icon in the right sidebar to open the document info and metadata panel.
  2. Then either:
    1. Click the metadata tab, for a standalone document or the root document of a publication, OR
    2. Click the publication tab, for any document in a publication other than the root.

Properties in the metadata tab only affect the document, unless the document is a publication root, in which case they flow through to all the documents in the publication.

2 Create a metadata property

Metadata properties for placeholders can also be created upon document upload.

  1. Click the Add property button to open the add property dialog.
  2. Add the values for:
    1. Title – displays in the document info and metadata panel.
    2. Name – name for the property – displays in document.
    3. Value – a single value for the property – if the property has been mapped, displays in the document when in review mode and you toggle the icon in the document toolbar.
    4. Datatype – from the drop-down, choose: string, date or datetime.
  3. Click the Submit button to close the dialog.
  4. Click Save to save the changes.
