Administration dashboard page

Key point: An overview of the health of your PageSeeder instance for administrators.

Server message

The server message is a temporary message displayed to all users when they are using PageSeeder. Administrators can set a server message for imminent events, such as to let users know that the server might be down for maintenance or to notify them of user experience degradation due to maintenance operations.

Examples of server messages:

  • “This server will be shut down briefly for maintenance within 5 minutes.”
  • “This server is being re-indexed; search might not be available in some groups.”

Users can hide the message by clicking the icon.

A server message is NOT an email message – it always displays at the top of the page.

Dashboard widgets

The administrator dashboard is divided up in widgets that provide shortcuts to the administration user interface.

Members

This widget lets you find any user account in PageSeeder by typing the first name, surname, username or email address. Select or click the member in the drop-down to go to their account profile page.

Click the Accounts button to go to the user accounts page.

Projects & groups

This widgets lets you find any project or group in PageSeeder by typing its name or title. Select or click the matching project or group in the drop-down to go to the corresponding project dashboard page or group dashboard page.

Click the Browse all button to go to the projects and groups page.

Template

This widget lets you select a project template. Select the template in the drop-down to go to the corresponding template configuration page.

Click the Global template button to go to the global template page.

Mail

The mail widget shows a bar chart for the last 7 days based on the mail logs. Click the Mail logs button to go to the mail logs page.

This widget indicates how many mails have been processed by PageSeeder in the last 7 days.

Index

The index widget shows a bar chart for the last 7 days based on the system index logs. Click the Index logs button to go to the index logs page.

The indexing job summary displays the number of objects (document, comment, task) being indexed. It is generally 0 unless an indexing job is in progress. You can launch an indexing job from the server indexing page, which you can view by clicking the Indexing button.

It’s OK if there is a large number of objects being indexed. Unless a new indexing process has very recently been launched, ensure that this number is decreasing steadily. If you suspect this can affect the user experience, send a server message.

Process

The process widget shows a bar chart for the last 7 days based on the system process logs. Click the Process logs button to go to the process logs page.

The processes job summary indicates how many active threads are running.

That number is generally 0 unless a background process such as an upload thread is underway. It’s OK to have multiple active threads, however, if that number doesn’t decrease over time, it could indicate a problem.

Publish

The publish widget shows a bar chart for the last 7 days based on the system publish logs. Click the Publish logs button to go to the publish logs page.

The publish jobs summary indicates how many publish jobs are in progress.

That number is generally 0 unless a publish process has been started. It’s OK to have multiple publish processes running concurrently, however, if that number doesn’t decrease over time, it could indicate a problem.

Multiple large publish jobs can affect the user experience.

System status

This widget shows key indicators about the status of the system.

Click the Server info button to go to the system information page.

The disk space indicates how much disk space is available. The bar shows how much disk space is used in relation to the total disk space where PageSeeder is installed. When you put the mouse pointer over the bar, the tooltip shows the precise amount of disk space used and available. If you are low on disk space, the box and bar show in yellow (less than 500MB available) or red (less than 200MB available).

The disk space only shows the main disk drive. If you’ve mounted some folder (e.g. logs or cache) to a different volume, this is not reflected.

The memory indicates how much of JVM memory is available. The bar shows how much memory is used  by the JVM in relation to the total amount of JVM memory that the JVM can claim. When you put the mouse pointer over the bar, the tooltip shows the precise amount of memory used and available. If you are low on memory, the box and bar show in yellow (less than 10% available) or red (less than 5% available).

The environment box shows name and version of the Operating System (OS), Java Virtual Machine (JVM), and Server used by PageSeeder.

The caching box indicates how many documents are currently in the XML document cache. Click the Caching button to see more details on the cache overview page.

General

Click the General logs button to go to the general logs page.

This widget indicates how many errors and warnings are present in the recent logs. The box and buttons change color if there are any warnings or errors. Click the Recent logs button to view the recent logs page.

Access

Click the Access logs button to go to the access logs page.

This widget shows:

  • How many users have signed in to PageSeeder in the last 24 hours.
  • How many accounts have experienced failed sign-in attempts.

These numbers are reset if the cache is cleared on the system.

System configuration

Click the Server properties button to go to the server properties page

This widget shows the key configuration options in your PageSeeder installation.

The database configuration summary indicates which type of database (MySQL or Postgres) is used, the name of the database host, and the version of the SQL driver loaded. Click the Database button to go to the database settings page

The email configuration summary indicates the incoming domain used and the hostname of the outgoing SMTP server. Click the Email button to go to the email settings page

The license configuration summary indicates the type of PageSeeder license used and the domain it is licensed for. Click the License button to go to the PageSeeder license page and view the settings.

7-day log bar charts

The log bar charts are designed to help administrators assess quickly whether an item requires their attention.

They display the number of log events for each of the last seven days. There are three color-coded event levels that are stacked by the level of severity.

The graphs use a logarithmic scale to ensure that issues requiring attention are clearly visible regardless of the amount of activity.

For example:

  • A tall blue bar indicates a high level of activity on that day.
  • A red bar indicates that some errors occurred.

Hold the pointer over the bar to see the number of events by severity on a day.

Click the bar to see the log events on that day.

For more information, see logging.
