Key point: Provide files and the necessary instructions to load new or externally modified content
into PageSeeder.
Upload location and selecting files
At the top, in the Upload into field, the location you are uploading to is shown. If you want to change the location,
you can click one of the following:

icons – select a different folder from the drop-down.

icon – on the right, select a recent folder from the drop-down.

icon – navigate to the wanted folder.
To load files into PageSeeder, you can either drag and drop files to the middle of
the dialog OR click the Select files button and navigate and select files to upload.
Import options button
Depending on your project configuration, clicking the Import options button next to a file shows available processing options. The default options are:
- No process – the default – the document imports as its original media type.
- Import document as PageSeeder PSML – imports using the default or custom import configuration for your project. You can select or clear the following checkboxes for DOCX files:
- Remove original document.
- Remove uploaded config (clear the checkbox if multiple docx).
- Keep as a single document – overrides the import configuration.
If developer view is enabled and
Show more options is clicked:
Click the Preview button to preview the content before uploading, and you can also edit your Member
publish config by clicking the
config button then
refresh the preview, or you can view the
logs.
Click Back to upload to return to the upload dialog.
Add properties to a document
Clicking the
icon beside a file enables you to add the following properties to the document:
The
is blue when document title, document id, or labels have an existing value.
Remove a document from the upload
Click the
icon to remove a document from the upload. Click the Yes button to confirm the remove or click No to keep the document to upload.
Preview metadata
If developer view is enabled, click an
icon, available for some media types, to preview any metadata attached to that file.
Upload a ZIP file
When uploading a ZIP file, click the
icon to unzip the contents upon upload.
When at least one document is in the upload dialog
The following options are available at the bottom left:
- Click the
icon – to add a subject for the upload, add labels, or change the message settings using the notification icons at the bottom right of the notification dialog. Click
the Save button in the notification dialog or click Cancel to abandon the changes to notifications.
- Click the
icon – to add a workflow to each of the uploaded files. Enter details in the workflow dialog form. Click the Save button to save changes, click Clear to not add any workflow or click Cancel to abandon the changes to workflow.
- Click the red
icon – to remove all documents from the upload.
Upload options
If developer view is enabled, you see this additional
button at bottom left. Click the
icon to see the following options:
- Display upload confirmation – clear the checkbox to not receive confirmation of which files will be overwritten
or created. This can speed up the upload – especially when importing DOCX files.
- Overwrite metadata and document properties – select this checkbox if you want to overwrite the metadata and properties of existing documents with the same filename, with the
metadata (
<metadata>
element) and properties (title, docid, publication id/type, description, labels)
attached to the new document you are uploading.
- Resolve references – resolve references to documents, images and URLs in the document you are uploading.
You can clear the checkbox if the referenced objects will be uploaded later and then
resolve references another time from the Group maintenance page.
- Validate with default Schematron – validate your documents.
- Index – index your documents. Clearing this checkbox is not recommended, but indexing can
be done another time from the Group maintenance page.
Click the Save button to save changes to the upload options or click Cancel to abandon the changes.
If there are saved changes to the notification, workflow or upload options then the
corresponding icon is highlighted.
Display icons
At the bottom right, click these icons to change the information viewed about the
documents to be uploaded:

icon – shows the individual document filenames.

icon – lists the media types of the files only. In this view, the
icon allows modifying all documents of the same media type at the same time. For example, you can apply a label
to all of the JPG files at once.

icon – shows the documents in a folder tree.
Initiating document upload
Click the Continue button to upload the files, or click Cancel to abandon uploading the files. After clicking Continue, each filename displays following the folder it is being uploaded to.
- Green filename – indicates the file is a new file.
- Red filename – indicates a file with the same filename exists in the folder and is overwritten
with the new file upon upload.
At the top right, click these buttons to filter which documents in your upload to
display.
- Show all – the default – all the files in the upload display.
- New – only new files display, in green.
- Overwrite – only filenames that are the same as existing filenames display, in red.
- None – no filenames display, but folders do.
All documents you have selected to upload are uploaded when the Confirm and upload button is clicked – not only the documents you have filtered to display.
At the bottom, you can click these buttons:
- Back – to go back a step.
- Confirm and upload – you see the progress of the upload and then confirmation of a successful upload.
- To close the dialog, click the
icon at top right or click the Close button at bottom left.
- Cancel – abandon uploading the files.
Upload errors and warnings
If a message displays saying there were errors or warnings, click the
icon to view the details. You see the time and a message for each upload log entry.
You can:
- Filter – type in the Filter logs field.
- Show warnings and errors only – click the checkbox.
- More options – click the
icon to display the group name, number of log pages, number of errors and warnings,
change the number of individual logs to view on the page. Click the
icon again to remove the extra options from view.
Group managers can see the same logs on the Process logs (group) page.
Click the Close button to close the dialog, or click Cancel.
