Default editor – Inline formatting and labels

Key point: Character formatting and inline labels.

Inline-level content formats include character formats such as bold, italic, underline, etc. and inline labels.

Options to quickly apply formatting to text are available in the middle of the editing toolbar.

Formatting drop-down

You can also list and switch between inline formats by using the formatting drop-down.

Inline formatting

Character formatting is available for the following inline styles. Click a format button in the editing toolbar or hold the cursor over Inline in the formatting drop-down and select an option.

Add inline formatting

  • Bold format:
    • Click the B button.
    • Select Bold in the formatting drop-down.
    • Press keyboard shortcut Control+B.
    • Use the text pattern – start pattern ** , end pattern **.
  • Italic format:
    • Click the I button.
    • Select Italic in the formatting drop-down.
    • Press Control+I.
    • Use the text pattern – start pattern * , end pattern *.
  • Underline format:
    • Click the U button.
    • Select Underline from the formatting drop-down.
    • Press Control+U.

Additionally, in the formatting drop-down, these inline character styles are available:

  • Superscript format:
    • Click Superscript in the drop-down.
    • Use the text pattern – start pattern ^, end pattern ^.
  • Subscript format – Click  Subscript in the drop-down.
  • Code format:
    • Click Code in the drop-down.
    • Use the text pattern – start pattern `, end pattern `.

Remove inline formatting

Click the relevant format button or option in the drop-down again, or you can use the Clear formatting option in the editing context menu.

Inline labels

Inline labels have a name and can highlight a portion of text within a paragraph or a list. Project managers configure labels at the project level – for more information, see configuration.

Add an inline label

  • In the formatting drop-down, click the icon to the right of the icon to reveal a drop-down list of available inline labels. Click a label to apply.
  • In the editing context menu, hold the cursor over the Inline labels option to reveal a drop-down list of available inline labels. Click a label to apply.
  • Start typing the text pattern /label_name:/. Press Enter when your label displays or when you have clicked your label if more than one option is auto-suggested. An empty inline label displays, ready for you to type your content.
  • Press Control+L, the keyboard shortcut to apply the most recently used inline label.

Remove an inline label

  • In the formatting drop-down, click the icon once.
  • In the editing context menu, click the Remove inline option.
  • In the editing context menu, click the Clear formatting option.
  • Press Control+L, the keyboard shortcut to remove the most recently used inline label.

Change an inline label

  • First remove the unwanted label, then add the new label.
