Document discussions panel

Key point: View all the discussions in the current document.

Use this panel to view a list of all the discussions posted on the document you are currently viewing.

A single discussion thread can be viewed in the discussion panel, available when you click a title in the list of all discussions.

When viewing a document, click the icon at the top of the right sidebar. Discussions are ordered by location (fragment) in document order. Discussions can be related to the whole document or on an individual fragment in the document.

Discussions on the whole document appear first in the discussions list, in chronological order, under the heading “Document” in a blue bar.

Then, any discussions on fragments are displayed, in chronological order. Only fragments that have discussions display a heading in a blue bar, containing either the content of the first heading in the fragment, or if no heading, the initial content of the first paragraph in the fragment.

No discussions yet

If there are no discussions, you see a message indicating there are no discussions in the document.

Click the Post comment... that opens the comment dialog to start a new discussion on the document. You can also click the icon on the right to post a comment by email.

Discussions on document

When holding the pointer over the heading “Document”, “On document” is displayed. When holding the pointer over the icon, you see “Only show comments at this location” (that is, only on this whole document).

Click the icon to only show only discussions on the document. To return to the list of all discussions on the document, click the All discussions on document button.

Holding the pointer over the icon at the right of the blue bar containing the heading “Document”, shows “On document”.

Each discussion in the list displays:

  • Account avatar – the creator’s avatar and avatars of any members who have replied in the discussion
  • Title – subject of the discussion as an xref, click the xref to view all the comments in the discussion thread, and:
    • Number of comments in discussion – in parenthesis, the total number of comments, including the original comment
    • icon – if attachments are included with the comment. Hold the pointer over the icon, you see “Includes attachments”.
  • Time – since discussion was created. Hold the pointer over the time to see creation date and time
  • Names – the first names and surnames of members who have replied in the discussion.

Archived comments

If the Show archived comments, tasks and discussions option is turned on in Preferences, you see a message at the top of panel, whether or not any archived comments exist. Click the Turn off button if you don’t want to see archived comments. If a comment is archived, it is indicated in the list in the panel and when viewing the individual comment. Group managers can unarchive a comment by clicking the icon, on the right when viewing the comment in the panel.

Where tasks have been archived, but the document they are attached to is still current, the archived tasks display here in the document discussions panel.

Discussions on fragments

When holding the pointer over a heading or paragraph content in the blue bar, the fragment number the comment is posted on is displayed. When holding the pointer over the icon, you see a message indicating that only comments in the current location (that is, only on that particular fragment in the document) are shown.

Click the icon to only show only discussions on the fragment. To return to the list of all discussions on the document, click the All discussions on document button.

When you hold the pointer over the icon at the right of the blue bar, you see “On fragment #”, and the fragment is highlighted in the main section of the page.

Click a title to view a discussion thread on a fragment within the document. The selected discussion opens in the document discussion panel.
