Task panel

Key point: View the details of a task and update.

The icon and title for the task are in the header bar.

Title and context

The task title is shown at the top, and to the right, the context group for the task.

If the task is created on a document or a URL, a link to the document or URL is preceded by its media type icon. If applicable, following the icon, the fragment number within the document or the page number is indicated to the right.

Task summary

The task summary shows the current values for the task status, priority, assignee and Due date. "--" indicates that there is no value for the corresponding heading. These values are based on the last comment in the task.

Comments

Click the Update button to open the comment dialog and update the task. This dialog lets you change the title of the task, enter a comment about the update and change the status, priority, assignee and due date for the task. The options available to you are based on your role in the group.

Tasks comments are listed in chronological order by default, showing the original comment for the task first. Click the Most recent first switch, if you prefer to list the most recent comments first instead.

Selecting this option in the task panel also turns it on in your preferences page and the workflow panel. Deselecting it in any of these turns it off for all.

What follows is a description of the user interface for each step.

Author and date

The first line indicates the author and time of the update by displaying their avatar and name on the left and the relative time on the right. You can hold the cursor over the date to see the full date as a tooltip.

Comments can be edited or moved by clicking the or icons on the right. The time the comment was first created is indicated. Managers can also archive individual comments by clicking the icon.

Task changes

It is followed by any change to the task. To help identify changes, only values that the author has modified are displayed. If a value is removed, it appears as strikethrough text.

For example, if an author updates the task of a document that has: the priority “High”, the status of “Resolved”, and is assigned to “Jane Smith” – if the author changes the status to “Closed” and removes the assignee – the update only shows the status as “Closed”. The assignee “Jane” is shown using strikethrough text.

A task comment does not necessarily change the task values, a member might have only added a comment about the task.

Comment and labels

The content of the task comment, followed by labels if the author has left any. If the comment has been modified by any way, the “Modified by” text is shown to the right with the modifier’s name and the date of modification.

Attachments (if any)

If the author has attached any document to the comment, they are displayed last.

When you edit a comment, the default notification setting is silent. You can change the message settings for the comment – click one of the notification icons to the right.
