Move comment/task dialog

Key point: Relocate a comment or task to somewhere else in the group or on the server.

This feature makes it possible to move a single comment or task, or a comment or task plus all their replies, to a different location, which can be one of the following:

  • A general comment (not inside a document) in the same group or a different group.
  • To a document or a document fragment.
  • To an existing discussion or task.
  • To a URL.

The main difference between the Move comment dialog and the Move task dialog is whether the user interface displays “comment” or “task” in the links, title and/or buttons.

For this feature, select one of the following options from the drop-down in the Move comment field:

To a group

Moving a comment outside a document makes it a general comment for whatever group it exists in.

By default, the name of the current group is displayed in the search box. To move the comment to a different group, start typing the group name and select from the list.

A green box with the icon and a confirmation message prompts you to move replies to the comment. To move only the single comment, clear the checkbox.

Click the Move button.

On a document

After selecting this option in the dialog, use one of the following to choose the target document:

Browse for a document – click the  icon to display the document tree on the left of the main area.

Search for a document – click the icon to display the search box to the right and start typing the document title to search.

If the target is in a different group, click in the group field on the far right. Select the appropriate group and then use the same options to find the document.

Selecting your fragment

After choosing the document, either:

  • Select Add comment on document, or
  • Scroll to the target fragment, use the mouse to highlight it, then click to select it.
  • If the target is a PDF document, scroll to the target page, use the mouse to highlight it, then click the page to select it.

A green box with the icon and a confirmation message prompts you to move replies to the comment. To move only the single comment, clear the checkbox.

Click the Move button.

Click the hide option on the right of the Add comment on document button to hide the document preview.

As a reply to a discussion

By default, all non-task discussions in the current group display in the dialog.

A field on the far right displays the current group name. To move to a different group, start typing the name in this field. Once selected, the dialog displays the discussions for the new target group.

Use the scroll bar or begin typing in the “Search for destination” field. Select the appropriate discussion and click the Add comment as a reply button that appears at the start and end of the thread.

A green box with the icon and a confirmation message prompts you to move replies to the comment. To move only the single comment, clear the checkbox.

Click the Move button.

Click the hide option on the right of the Add comment as a reply button to hide the comment preview.

As a reply to a task

Moving a task onto another task is not a good idea!

This function is only for consistency because comments and discussions can be moved around, but with tasks, there can be some unexpected results.

By default, all the tasks in the current group display in the dialog.

A field on the far right displays the current group name. To move to a different group, start typing the name in this field. Once selected, the dialog displays the tasks for the new target group.

Click the hide option on the right of the Add comment as a reply button to hide the task preview.

On a URL

By default, the most recent URLs in the current group display in the dialog.

A field on the far right displays the current group name. To move to a different group, start typing the name in this field. Once selected, the dialog displays the URLs for the new target group.

After selecting the target URL, the URL card displays so that you can verify that it is the intended URL.

Click the Add comment on URL button.

A green box with the icon and a confirmation message prompts you to move replies to the comment. To move only the single comment, clear the checkbox.

Click the Move button.

Click the hide option on the right of the Add comment on URL button to hide the URL preview.
