Fragment history panel

Key point: The edit history of a fragment in your PSML document.

There are several ways to view the edit history for a fragment:

  • document history panel – click the icon in the right sidebar.
  • document fragment options – click the icon on the right of a fragment when viewing a document, then click the icon.
  • document activity page – Navigation menu > GROUP >  Document activity.
  • activity panel – When viewing a document, click the icon on the left sidebar to view daily activity for the group or publication.
  • My draftsNavigation menu > ACCOUNT > My drafts.

This panel lists the edits made to a single fragment – the most recent edit shows at the top of the panel. The fragment ID within the document is in the panel header.

If you reached this panel from another panel, you can use the back button at the bottom to return to the previous panel.

Edits

Every edit is shown as a diff between the content before and after the edit (or list of consecutive edits by the same author).

On top of each edit, the author and the date the last edit was made are shown. If the edit is a draft, draft displays at the top of the edit.

The content of the edit shows added content in green underline and removed content in red strikethough. When more complex changes are made, you can use the icon to display more details in the compare documents panel.

Options for the edit are displayed at the bottom of each edit.

  • Note button – An edit note can be added to the edit – click the button to open the Add edit note dialog.
  • Revert button – You can revert to the content of a previous edit – clicking the button, then click the Yes button to confirm the change.

Original or default content

The last item in the history is always the content of the fragment before any edit occurred. This might be the original content, for example when the document is uploaded or the  default content when the document is created from a document template.

The original or default content is often empty.

Handling drafts

If the edit is still a draft, different options are available.

An author can save their own draft as an edit by clicking the Save button or they can delete their own draft by clicking the Discard button.

If the draft belongs to another user, this button is not shown, but the content can be accepted or rejected using the unlock this fragment dialog

If edit content exists because another author’s draft content was accepted, a icon and their avatar and name are displayed under the content to the right.

Consecutive edits

Consecutive edits made by the same user are collapsed by default and show as if they were a single edit.

They can be expanded by clicking the icon at the bottom right of a fragment history panel.

Draft edits are always shown on their own.

The number of consecutive edits is shown beside the icon. When expanded, the most recent edit shows at the top of the panel. Use the scroll bar on the right of the panel to navigate the list of edits.

Viewing consecutive edits by the same author is generally not useful, but when many changes have been made, it can be helpful to track down individual changes.

Track changes by author

Following the panel header, you see a Track changes by author switch.

This option lets you see who contributed to the current content.

Toggling this switch displays edits in a different color for each author. Holding the cursor over text in a particular color reveals who made the edit and the date and time the edit was made. Authors are listed at the bottom of the panel beside their allocated color.
