Discussion
Key point: A thread consisting of one or more comments.

A discussion in PageSeeder is a conversation thread that begins with an initial comment and includes all replies to that comment.

The title of a discussion is automatically taken from the title of the most recent comment.

The unique discussion ID is the same as the ID of the first comment in the thread.

In the user interface, PageSeeder uses the icon for discussions.

Understanding the context

Every discussion has a specific context which might be:

  • A group.
  • A document.
  • A specific location within a document.

You can see the context of any discussion next to the icon in the user interface.

You can change the context by:

  • Moving the initial comment – If you move the first comment, along with all its replies, to a different location, the entire discussion stays intact but changes its context.

  • Moving a reply – If you move only a reply to a different location, that comment breaks away from the original discussion and becomes part of a new discussion thread in its new location.

Discussions as tasks

When the most recent comment within a discussion has a status assigned to it, the discussion becomes trackable as a task. In this case:

  • The most recent comment defines the current task properties.
  • These properties include status, priority, assignee, and due date.
  • Tasks can be tracked and managed across the system.

This dual functionality makes discussions a powerful tool for both communication and task management.

The discussions page lists both tasks and regular discussions in your group.

The document discussions panel only shows discussions related to a specific document.

The document tasks panel only shows tasks related to a specific document.
