Table of contents panel
Key point: The table of contents (TOC) of your document or publication.

When viewing a document, the Table of contents panel is on the left and shows all headings in the included documents. It can be opened or closed by clicking the icon at the top of the left sidebar or by clicking the  icon. PSML documents have a TOC panel, whereas, PDF documents have a PDF outline panel.

To navigate to any document or fragment, click the or icons. You can view individual documents or fragments by clicking the links.

Publication TOC

If the document is part of a publication, all the headings in the documents that are part of the publication can be seen in the panel, in hierarchical order, with the publication root document at the top.

Indicators

To help you identify which documents might require your attention, PageSeeder uses:

  • A colored icon next to documents that have at least a comment, an active task status, or have an active workflow status.
  • A colored dot to the right of any heading indicates that there is at least one document that requires your attention down the hierarchy – not directly on the item but when you expand the heading.

Click the icon on the top right corner of the panel to select which indicator you would like to display, then click one of the following icons:

Any documents or fragments that have active tasks show a  icon to the right, followed by the number of active tasks.

Any documents or fragments that have comments show a  icon to the right, followed by the number of individual comments.

Any documents that have an active workflow status, show a icon to the right.

Click the icon again to close these options.

Document not part of a publication

If a document is not part of a publication, in the TOC panel, you see all the headings in the document, in hierarchical order.

Document without multiple headings

If a document has no headings (other than the heading in the first fragment), in the TOC panel, you see a message in a yellow box with a icon indicating it doesn’t have a table of contents as it doesn’t have multiple headings and isn't part of a publication.

Numbering table

In Developer view click the icon on the top right corner of the panel to replace the TOC with the numbering table. Click the icon to display the TOC again.

The numbering table lists all the headings and numbered paragraphs in the publication and can help diagnose numbering issues. It contains the following three columns:

  • Prefix/Canonical: the displayed auto-number / the internal numerical representation of the auto-number.
  • Title: the heading text or the beginning text of the paragraph linked to that location in the publication.
  • Publication/Source level: the hierarchical publication level corresponding to the publication configuration / the level or indent in the PSML document.
