A-Z glossary of PageSeeder concepts

Fragment identifier (ID)

There are unique fragment IDs that correspond to every fragment inside a document. By default,  these values are generated by the system, however they can also be assigned to a section using PS XML.

Properly managed, externally defined fragment IDs can be used to create very powerful document models. An example use case is merging PageSeeder documents with externally maintained data such as pricing. Having pre-defined addresses for documents and fragments will make it possible to programmatically overwrite only specific areas of the document, instead of the whole document. Fragments that have been overwritten using this technique still appear in document history with the member that has uploaded the changes listed as the author.
