Verify authenticator dialog

Key point: Verify a registered authenticator for multifactor authentication.

Once you’ve registered an authenticator, we need to verify that it can be used to check your identify.

This dialog appears immediately after you register an authenticator or when you click Verify on the security page for a registered but unverified authenticator.

Unverified authenticators are listed in your security page with a unverified flag.

Send code by email

If you registered an email authenticator, an email is automatically sent to your nominated address with the subject PageSeeder Verification Code. The security code is only valid for a few minutes.

If you didn’t receive the email, click the Resend Email button when it becomes enabled. To avoid confusion and prevent spamming, PageSeeder limits how frequently security emails can be sent.

To verify your email address, enter the code you received in the input field and click Verify code.

If the code is correct, a success message displays and you can close the dialog. Your authenticator is now ready to use the next time you sign in.

If the code is incorrect, a message indicates how many verification attempts you have remaining.

Send code by SMS

If you registered an SMS authenticator, a text message containing your security code is automatically sent to your phone. The security code is only valid for a few minutes.

If you didn’t receive the SMS, click the Resend SMS button when it becomes enabled. To avoid confusion, PageSeeder limits how frequently security codes can be sent.

To verify your phone number, enter the code you received by SMS in the input field and click Verify code.

If the code is correct, a success message displays and you can close the dialog. Your authenticator is now ready to use the next time you sign in.

If the code is incorrect, a message indicates how many verification attempts you have remaining.

Authenticator app

If you registered an authenticator app, a QR code is displayed on left side of the dialog.

Scan this QR code with your authenticator app on your device.

If you are unable to scan the QR code, you can enter the details manually if your app allows it. Here are the details you might need to provide:

  • Account nameYour email address.
  • Issuer – PageSeeder (you can also add the host address, like ps.example.org).
  • Secret keyCopy the 24-character code displayed below the QR code.
  • Period – 30 seconds.
  • Digits – 6 (unless you selected 7 or 8 during registration).
  • Algorithm – SHA1 (unless you selected a different one during registration).

Once you have scanned the code or saved the details, your authenticator app displays the security code for PageSeeder. Enter this code and click Verify code.

If the code is correct, a success message displays and you can close the dialog. Your authenticator is now ready to use the next time you sign in.

If the code is incorrect, a message indicates how many verification attempts you have remaining.

Device or security key

If you have registered a device or security key, the verification process is handled by your operating system and varies depending on whether you are using a mobile or desktop computer.

Click the Register your security key or Register your device button and follow the instructions on screen.

Backup codes

If you requested backup codes, this dialog shows the list of 10 individual codes that you can use if you are unable to access your other authenticators.

These codes can only be used once and are only displayed after registration. You cannot use them until you’ve confirmed that you have saved a copy. There is no verification process other than acknowledging that you have saved these recovery codes somewhere safe.

Click the I’ve saved the codes button to confirm.

Once you’ve confirmed that the codes are saved securely, they are no longer displayed, but PageSeeder indicates how many you have remaining.

Store backup codes securely in a password manager or other safe location. If you lose your backup codes or they are all used up, you need to delete this authenticator and request a new set.
