Resolve references dialog

Key point: Process a folder or group to find and resolve any unresolved references.

Click the Resolve button to confirm you want to resolve references in the folder or group

When do you resolve xrefs?

Resolving references is usually unnecessary when documents are edited within PageSeeder.

It’s possible to have unresolved references in the following circumstances:

  • The target of an image, link or xref has been archived or deleted.
  • You upload a large collection of documents without resolving the documents.
  • A document is uploaded by a third-party using the service API without resolving references.
  • Uploaded documents contain references that don’t exist in PageSeeder.

When in review mode, unresolved references appear in red and are followed by the   icon.

Not all documents can be resolved. PageSeeder can only resolve a reference if it can find the other end of the xref.

Resolving xrefs

Clicking Resolve starts the process. PageSeeder scans the documents and attempts to resolve the references using the path or Doc ID included in the image, link or xref.

Click the icon to stop and cancel the process.

If you click Close to close the dialog without cancelling the process, it continues running in the background. You then need to go to the process logs (group) page to see the result as you won’t have the Show logs button.

When the process is complete, it displays the following:

Click Show logs to view the details of the logs:

How to find this page

When developer view is enabled, group managers can select this option for a folder, see the documents page, under Operations on folders. It attempts to resolve any unresolved xrefs in documents contained in the folder.

To resolve references for a group, this dialog is available from the group maintenance page for managers and administrators.
