Dark mode

Key point: A browser / operating system setting that makes viewing content easier on your eyes.

An option provided by many operating systems and websites, dark mode is a light-on-dark color theme that is sometimes referred to as night mode, black mode or dark theme. In terms of computer UI design and web design, this color scheme displays light-colored text, icons, and graphical UI elements on a dark background. Some users find this mode more visually appealing and more comfortable for viewing in certain external lighting conditions.

Dark modes can reduce power consumption. For perspective, displaying white on full brightness uses roughly six times as much power as pure black on a 2016 Google Pixel, which has an OLED display.

The colors you see when in dark mode are a darker variation of your choice of theme. A default palette is used when no theme is selected.
