Email templates page

Key point: Review and manage the project email templates.

Email templates control the content and format of automated messages such as “Lost password” or “Invitation to join a group”. You can customize these templates to match your organization's needs. For example, you can customize where links resolve to, adjust the amount of information included in messages, or modify the branding and styling. Experienced developers can also modify the email headers.

To create templates for use in all projects, use the global template page.

For developers: For much more detail regarding PageSeeder email, see the email section of the Developer website.

Email templates

To select the source XML content of email for editing, use the drop-down menus in the fields at the top:

  • The template that generates the email in HTML or text format. PageSeeder defines a dozen templates for different purposes such as comment notifications, digest, reset password, etc.
  • The notification that corresponds to a template-specific source XML based on a use case. For example, the 'new-member' template has four options depending on whether the member is already activated and whether they were invited to join or registered themselves.

When you select an option in these drop-down menus, the corresponding XML content displays in the box underneath, where you can edit it for testing purposes.

To save your changes as a new custom notification option, click Save notification.

To remove a custom notification, click the Delete custom notification.

Organization config

Where the objective is to only change the branding of messages, a more convenient option is to use the organization-config.xml.

Click Reload organization config to reload the organization config file.

For convenience, you can edit it by selecting the Edit organization config from Custom templates button at the bottom right.

This only edits the organization config for the current project. To edit the global config go to the global template first.

Other options

If you want to manage the templates yourself, you can edit the XSLT files that generate the emails.

While this gives you more control over the format of emails, it is also more involved.

Use the Email templates button at the bottom to reveal options to create or edit the custom XSLT files in the template file panel or view the default files used by PageSeeder.

Use the Custom templates button at the bottom right to reveal options to create a new custom XSLT template to be imported by other email templates.

Email preview

When you click one of the options in the Preview email drop-down, PageSeeder displays a preview of the email.

Use the tabs to select:

  • HTML preview – A preview of the HTML email sent.
  • Text preview – A preview of the text only email.
  • Headers – A table listing the generated SMTP headers sent by PageSeeder.

Use the Send to self button to send the test email to your PageSeeder account email address.
