Text patterns

Key point: Use text patterns to format the content without having to use the toolbar or context menu.

Text patterns apply a specific format when a specific set of characters is found in the text. You can use them to automatically format the content without having to use the editing toolbar or editing context menu.

Most text patterns are designed to set you up before you write content.

Block patterns

Block text patterns affect the current block – they must start the line. The corresponding format is applied once the Enter key is pressed.

The block label text pattern depends on the editor configuration, for example, if the block labels 'note' and 'warning' have been defined, the following text patterns are available //note: and //warning:.

Inline patterns

Inline text patterns affect the content between the start and end patterns.

You can use inline patterns anywhere and the corresponding format is applied once you press the Enter or Space key after the end pattern.

The inline label text pattern depends on the editor configuration, for example, if the inline labels 'mark' and 'keyword' have been defined, the following text patterns are available /mark: and /keyword:.

Auto-complete pattern

Auto-complete patterns let you select an option in a list of values as you type. The auto-completer automatically inserts the selected option when you press the Enter key.

To display a list of values, after the pattern, type the first letter of the label, document or metadata property name. Type the first two letters of any special character name.

* Only valid at the start of a line.

The document auto-suggest searches the text within the ID, title, filename and document ID and only returns PSML documents. It inserts an xref of type none to the default fragment and as a reverse link.

To search multiple terms when inserting an xref, use ‘_’ (underscore) in place of space; it is automatically replaced with a single space for the auto-suggest.
