Xref list editor

Key point: Special editor for creating and managing lists of xrefs.

This editor is specialized for the xref fragments so that users can quickly create lists of xrefs to documents. It is used by default in a references document, but it can also be configured in custom templates to appear in other places.

Modifying the list

For each xref listed, you can:

  • – Decrease the xref level by 1, of this xref and the following xrefs with the same level or lower.
  • – Decrease the xref level by 1.
  • – Increase the xref level by 1.
  • – Increase the xref level by 1, of this xref and the following xrefs with the same level or lower.
  • – Edit the xref with the xref dialog.
  • – Remove the xref from the list.

You can drag and drop xrefs to move them to a different position.

Adding an xref

To add an xref, you can either lookup a document to xref or browse for documents in your group. By default, xrefs are added at the end of the list. To insert the xref at a different position, click an xref in the list so that it appears with a dark background – your new xref is inserted following your selection.

Document lookup

To lookup a document, start typing the title of the target document in the box at the bottom of the editor. Matching documents are listed in the drop-down. Documents that are already in the xref list don’t appear in the drop-down.

The xref editor can be configured so that it constrains the results in the drop-down.

Use the up  and down arrow keys to select the document and press ENTER, or use the mouse to click the document in the drop-down. An xref to the selected document is added to the list.

When adding an xref using this method, it defaults to creating an xref of type ‘Embed’ using the title of the document for the xref and no link level. You can modify the xref and/or its position after you’ve added it to the list.

Click the button to clear the box.

Document browse

Click the Browse button to open the xref dialog.

From the dialog, you can search or browse for documents in your group. Once you select a document in the dialog, you can also edit the xref before inserting it.

Although the xref dialog, lets you select a target fragment, it is rarely a good idea in the context of an xref list.

Xref to a new document

Follow the instructions in Create a new document to xref to, in the xref dialog document.
