Filename

Key point: Filename for a PageSeeder folder or document.

Whether it is a normal binary file, such as .ZIP, or an Office document or a PageSeeder document, any file viewed in PageSeeder has both a filename and document title. However, because these files are physically stored on the file system of the host server, they must not have names that violate the naming rules of the host operating system.

Because PageSeeder can be run on many different operating systems, the allowable characters in a filename must conform with the following rules:

All characters between, and including, ASCII 32 (Space) and ASCII 126 (~) (see the following exceptions). For more detail, see this chart on Wikipedia .

Characters NOT allowed in a filename

/ \ ? % * : | < > "

Due to Windows restrictions, it’s better:

Not to start or end a filename with a space or a period;
Not to use the following reserved names for the filename: CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9. Also, avoid these names followed immediately by an extension; for example, NUL.txt is not recommended.
