Document type

Key point: A collection of definition files, linked by name and location, that describe all the characteristics necessary to express rich documents.

The following customizable components are available when users have specific requirements for how they create, validate, store and format content. Known as a document type, these components are similar to a style sheet in Microsoft Word or a template / master document in Adobe FrameMaker.

Built-in document types

There are three built-in document types:

Document template

A document template defines the structure and content of a document, including the information that is required or optional and any specific ordering.

Document config

A document config specifies the location, naming constraints and fields necessary to create a document. It also defines any semantics including labels that are only available for the particular document type or in a specified fragment.

Schematron

Schematron is an ISO standard validation framework for testing the content of documents or fragments. Built on a flexible, but simple language, Schematron allows users to express validation rules based on a number of factors that include structure, order, content, co-occurrence and others.

Editing

Makes it possible to configure the document editor with components such as drop-down lists for property values.

Style

For the content of a document type, the style template can be used to customize the display of the PSML.
